Mad Artists

We rip open our vulnerability
in order to have a well
from which to draw
the authenticity of our art

Leaving ourselves wide open and in eternal search
of someone else to see
the naked humanity within us
which we must expose in order to be true to ourselves

Suspecting with instinctive clarity
that if we ever find that other half
the total lack of filters will create a beauty
which can be rivalled by nothing

Some of us find what we seek
other of us lose ourselves
in the never-presence of protective layers
and protective distance

Trying to close our openness
with drugs or alcohol
thus drowning the sensitivity
we need to create
