Barred

Hauntingly big eyes
wetly black
running teary trenches down the grimy cheeks
of a small dirty face
coffee coloured fists
dusted over by barren red soil
coughing listlessly while
looking uncomprehendingly at the tall brick wall
in the distance

Bright blue eyes
almost lost in the chubby rosy cheeks
bulging up from laughter
dark glossy curls
bouncing springily
around a fair little face
happily kicking
a shiny new ball against the tall brick wall
surrounding the garden

How will they ever learn

that they’re one people?
